Monetize an alexa skill?

All resources I can find suggest that there is no way to monetize an Alexa skill.
Is there a real incentive for an independent developer?

Fun and fame and practice are fine, but if the skill I have in mind is likely to cost real money to create, host, and maintain - can real money be generated?

    Hey Nathan,

    That's a good question. We like to think that the prizes, fun and fame are incentive, but I understand your point. Many companies find monetary value in Alexa skills as extensions to other products. For example, you can use the Alexa skill for Spotify to control your music while you might also pay a subscription fee for a Spotify account.

    I know I'm 7 months late to the party but there are a couple of ways to earn money from Alexa. I've listed several of them out on a blog post. The short answer is that no, there's not a super dependable way to earn money with Alexa, but there are a few ancillary options that may get you a little here or there.
